What is a MagnaClean magnetic filter?
A MagnaClean filter is a device fitted to the heating circuit to capture magnetic debris carried in the circulating water. It stays in place during normal heating operation. L&B fits magnetic filters; this guide explains that service and should not be confused with a MagnaCleanse flushing appointment. The similar names describe different products and jobs.
Why collect debris from heating water?
Corrosion debris can circulate through the heating circuit. Capturing magnetic particles helps keep that material out of other parts of the system. ADEY describes MagnaClean filtration as a way to protect heating components from suspended sludge. The benefit is ongoing collection during normal circulation, rather than waiting for material to build up elsewhere. A filter is not a promise that the boiler will never develop a fault.
Filter fitting and flushing are not the same
MagnaClean is a fitted filter. MagnaCleanse is ADEY’s equipment for cleansing a heating system. Fitting a filter does not mean that a dirty system has been flushed, and a filter cannot be assumed to remove existing deposits wherever they are lodged. We fit magnetic filters; we do not offer MagnaCleanse flushing. If an assessment indicates that separate cleaning is needed, that needs to be discussed as a distinct piece of work.
Can a filter help an existing boiler?
A filter may be considered alongside a new boiler or for an existing heating installation. Suitability depends on the system, space, pipework and access for future maintenance. Send us a photograph of the pipework around the boiler if available, together with the boiler model, and we can discuss what needs assessing. Do not choose a product solely because it fits in a photograph of another installation.
It needs an ongoing maintenance plan
Collected material has to be removed from the filter in accordance with the product instructions. Ask how the filter will be accessed, what maintenance it needs and whether checking it is included in your agreed boiler service. A filter is one part of system care, alongside appropriate water treatment and appliance maintenance. It does not make annual boiler servicing unnecessary.
What to ask when requesting a quote
Ask which filter is proposed, where it will be fitted, what pipework changes are required and how it will be maintained. Explain any current heating faults before booking: a radiator that is not warming up still needs assessment rather than a guarantee that a new filter will cure it. Request a clear scope covering installation, any associated work and handover information.
