A working boiler still needs maintenance
It is easy to put servicing off when the heating and hot water seem normal. But normal day-to-day operation is not a complete picture of the appliance’s condition. A service gives a qualified engineer an opportunity to follow the manufacturer’s maintenance procedure and check how the boiler is operating. The point is to assess and maintain it, rather than wait for a breakdown to create the first appointment.
What a service can—and cannot—tell you
The exact checks and maintenance depend on the model. They can include checking operation and controls, inspecting relevant components and carrying out specified cleaning. It is not a promise that no component will fail afterwards, and it is not the same as diagnosing a known fault. If the boiler has been locking out, making unusual noises or supplying intermittent hot water, explain that when you book.
Check the guarantee paperwork
Many boiler guarantees depend on regular servicing. Worcester Bosch specifically requires yearly servicing under its manufacturer guarantee. Keep the service record with the installation documents and check the terms for your own model, including what evidence is required. A service does not automatically restore a guarantee that has already lapsed; ask the manufacturer if the history is incomplete.
Servicing, repairs and system cleaning are different jobs
A routine boiler service focuses on the appliance. A repair addresses a diagnosed fault. A heating-system cleanse addresses contamination in the circulating heating water where that is the problem. You may need more than one type of work, but none should be assumed to include the others. When comparing quotations, ask what is covered, what paperwork you receive and how any additional work would be agreed.
Prepare for the appointment
Have the make and model, previous service record and any fault codes available. Make sure the engineer can reach the boiler safely and tell them about access restrictions. If the home is tenanted, agree access in advance. If you also need a landlord gas safety check, request that separately rather than assuming the service includes it.
Plan the next step locally
If your boiler is working and due maintenance, enquire about boiler servicing. If it is not working properly, use our repairs service instead. L&B arranges visits from Warsash across Locks Heath, Fareham, Southampton and Portsmouth. Include your postcode and service history so we can discuss an appropriate appointment.
